The stamp used in the later 50’s and the stamp used in the early 70’s are nearly identical.
So how do you identify the differences?
The cymbals made before 1972 were made in the Quincy, MA factory - machining was cruder and less refined - you will find more aberrations, chatter marks and some hand hammering marks on the surface of these cymbals (marks of character). The cymbals made after 1972 are made in the present Norwell, MA factory and are more refined as there were major tool upgrades and various cymbal redesigns (major upgrades occurred again in 81’ and 98’). The cymbal profiles, bell shapes and lathing grooves from the 1970’s are different then the cymbals from the 1950’s - the 1970’s cymbals also have a noticeable weight increase over the 1950’s.
The present day cymbals are mass production with laser stamps after 1994.
